Those who have had a difficult time paying their energy bills due to loss of employment, those who may just need a little help, or even those who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic can apply for the LIHEAP program.
Pennyrille Allied Community Services reports enrollment is now open for the Spring Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). They add enrollment will be open through July 31st or until funds are depleted and the one-time benefit to eligible households is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Income eligibility has now increased to 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and the amount of benefit received by families is determined by factors such as income, household size, housing type, and fuel type. They urge anyone who may be in need to contact their offices to see if they qualify for assistance.
An overdue bill or disconnect notice is not required to apply and families do not have to own their home or pay energy bills directly to the utility company to be eligible for the program.

LIHEAP assistance is available in all counties served by PACS including Trigg, Christian, Caldwell, Hopkins, Lyon, and Muhlenberg counties.
