Trigg Schools Approve Tentative Traditional Graduation Date

Trigg County school board members set a tentative traditional graduation date for the class of 2020 and learned about the current reduction of staff from the extra duty salary schedule during a special called virtual meeting Thursday night.

Board members were presented three tentative graduation dates and discussed the cons against each one, especially as many of the graduates head off to college or start jobs in the workforce. They voted to set the first date for August 8 and have backup dates of October 3 and December 12, after a short discussion and hearing from senior parent Mindy Faust.

Board member Clara Beth Hyde and Faust say students would like to have a service, even if family and the community can not attend.

If one of the dates occurs, high school principal, Shannon Burcham would like to provide more than just a ceremony. If permitted at that time, he says they would like to provide a meal for the students, allow time for fellowship among students, and a final senior walkthrough of the school with students, staff, and parents.

In other news, James Mangels, Director of Personnel and Student Services told board members a letter of reduction has been sent to staff members who are coaches, band directors, and others on the current extra duty salary schedule.

Mangels adds the letters of reduction can be rescinded by June 15, if the district knows more about what sports seasons and extracurricular activities will be allowed to occur, under guidance from Governor Andy Beshear.

Board members also approved the salary schedules for fiscal year 2021 that had to be approved before Friday. The fiscal year 2021 tentative budget was also approved for over $21,084,000.
