A Hopkinsville woman is among 25 people awarded a scholarship from the Gerald F. Healy Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation Scholarship endowment. The college scholarships totaled $51,500 with four surviving family members of Kentucky officers receiving $5,000 scholarships each and the remaining recipients were awarded $1,500.

Hopkinsville Police Telecommunicator Jordan Kelly was among the group awarded a $1,500 scholarship, according to an article in the Kentucky Law Enforcement Magazine. As previously reported by the News Edge, Kelly graduated from the Public Safety Dispatch Academy at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training in June 2019. She was one of eleven graduates in the 126th telecommunications academy class recognized for trainees of distinction.

The article says Healy was a founding member of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation, established in 1999. He created the scholarship program in 2004 to help law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and their families pay for college. After his death in 2009, the scholarship was named in honor of Healy’s dedication to the foundation.

Applications for the Healy scholarships are due each year in March and are reviewed by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation Board of Directors.
