South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council Director Carter Hendricks provided an update on area industries and presented the first reading of the 2020-2021 budget during their Monday board of directors meeting.
Hendricks tells the News Edge, currently, there are about 14 industries or up to 3,500 jobs affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Christian, Trigg, and Todd counties. He adds a large majority of the manufacturers affected are automotive-related businesses.
Hendricks adds they are continuing to have conversations with industries facing closures because of Governor Andy Beshear’s mandates.
Hendricks says there are over 50 industries in the three-county region, meaning about a quarter of local industries have been heavily affected during the pandemic.
Additionally, the South Western Kentucky EDC board members heard the first reading of the 2020-21 fiscal year budget for July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021.
Hendricks says they are being very cautious with the way they calculate revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He adds they are working to keep their expenses in line with projected revenue on the budget.
Hendricks says they will approve the budget during the May or June board meeting, after a second reading.
The next South Western Kentucky EDC meeting will be held Monday, May 18 at noon.
