Former Kentucky Republican governor candidate and State Representative Robert Goforth was arrested early Tuesday morning on domestic violence charges.

Goforth, who represents Jackson, Laurel, and Madison Counties in the Kentucky House of Representatives, was arrested around 4:00 Tuesday morning and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center on charges of first-degree strangulation, 4th-degree assault, and 3rd-degree terroristic threatening.

Police tell media outlets an unidentified woman filed a complaint at the London 911 dispatch center. The victim reportedly had marks on her forehead, neck, and arms. The assault reportedly occurred in front of three small children. Police told media outlets Goforth allegedly strangled the woman with an ethernet cord and threatened to kill her.

Goforth lost the 2019 Republican Primary to former Governor Matt Bevin, who was defeated in the November General Election by Governor Andy Beshear.
