Trigg County magistrates approved a grant resolution Monday afternoon that would help attain funding to build a new bathroom/concession stand at the recreation complex.

Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander says the Land, Water, Conservation Fund grant will pay up to 50% of the project cost.

Alexander says Ronald Johnson & Associates provided an estimate of constructing the new building, which could be around $250,000. He adds their in-kind work can be counted if they are awarded the grant.

Magistrates unanimously approved the grant resolution. Before approving it, magistrate Cameron Sumner asked if there was a way, in the future, to build a sports facility closer to the city limits. Magistrate Mike Wright agrees it would be nice to have a facility closer, but the Cadiz-Trigg County Parks and Recreation committee has looked over every inch of property in and near the city limits and says they haven’t found a property that would be affordable.

Sumner agrees the renovation needs to be completed at the complex and says in the future it would be nice to continue thinking about it.

The restroom/concession facility was constructed in the early 1980s and was originally built for the horse arena and other race tracks that were originally built on the complex property in the 1970s.
