Paul Tells Governor Beshear To ‘Take A Step Back’

U.S. Senator Rand Paul, who resides in Bowling Green, is asking Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to “take a step back” just hours after he announced he signed a new executive order Friday.

The order states Kentucky State Police will be recording the license plates of any attendees of mass gatherings they are made aware of and give them to local health departments that will mandate those residents self-quarantine for 14 days. During the announcement, Beshear said they were down to seven churches, who were not complying with other executive orders in recent weeks.

In a tweet published by Paul Friday, he said “Taking license plates at church? Quarantining someone for being Christian on Easter Sunday? Someone needs to take a step back here.”

Beshear’s executive order comes before Easter, one of the busiest and most important days in the Christian calendar.

Fox News reports Paul, who is also a physician, announced earlier this week that he had tested negative for the virus. This comes after he had been diagnosed with it and placed under quarantine last month. They add he has since started volunteering at a local hospital.
