Christian County Confirms Second COVID-19 Case

Christian County Health officials say a presumptive positive for COVID-19 has been confirmed in the county.

Health Department Director Kayla Bebout announced the patient is a 24-year-old male.

Bebout says the patient is recovering at home.

She says all of the individuals who have come in contact with the patient have been tested and will remain self-quarantined until the test results come back.

The test was administered by a Hopkinsville physician and is presumptive positive because it was conducted by a private lab.

Bebout says they are still trying to determine how the patient may have contracted the virus.

This makes the second case of coronavirus in Christian County.

Shortly after the case was confirmed, Hopkinsville Community College confirmed the patient was an employee at the school. The college already moved classes to all online instruction on March 13, then announced last Tuesday they are making a full transition to complete virtual services beginning Monday.

During this pandemic, the college’s maintenance department has increased its general cleaning practices, incorporating more potent cleaning products. In an abundance of caution, HCC will utilize an outside contractor to perform additional sanitizing.
