The University of Kentucky is continuing to monitor the ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic and making changes, including moving to online instruction through the end of the semester and postponing commencement.
UK officials announced Tuesday instruction will move to online through the end of the Spring 2020 semester, a change from their previous announcement using online or other alternative learning formats through April 3.
In addition, they say students should make plans to return to their residences away from campus to continue their studies remotely through the end of the semester. Officials indicate they will communicate details for moving out of the residence hall no later than Thursday.
Officials are requiring students to return to their homes unless they have approval to remain on campus.
They are also developing a process for refunds for housing and dining and will release more information soon.
UK officials add group meetings and events will be canceled or postponed until the end of the semester per the recommendations from both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Governor Andy Beshear.
University officials say commencement is also being postponed to ensure the safety of UK students and their families. Officials add the Commencement ceremony for the Spring 2020 graduating class will be scheduled when they are able to do so in a healthy and safe environment.
Officials stress this does not change the semester completion date for students, nor does it affect the timeline for students earning their degrees. Officials also point out they are only postponing the graduation ceremony and public celebration.
