Governor Andy Beshear announced the first confirmed COVID-19 case in western Kentucky and adds that all businesses that can not support social distancing must close Wednesday afternoon.
Governor Beshear says the confirmed case in Lyon County involves a 69-year old male. In addition, there are 25 other confirmed cases in the state, with one case taken out of the figures, as the person tested positive in New York, but used a Kentucky address.
During his Tuesday evening update, Beshear says he signed an executive order to close all public-facing businesses that encourage public congregation and cannot comply with social distancing by 5:00 PM Wednesday.
He adds there are some exemptions to the executive order.
Governor Beshear states another closure includes adult daycares by Friday.
During his news conference, Beshear adds he is asking the Kentucky General Assembly to either pass a budget soon or to adjourn and he will call a special session later this year to pass the state budget and that’s it.
In addition, Department for Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack, M.D. advised the importance of social distancing.
He adds now is the time for everyone to comply with the basic principle of staying away from each other.
