Christian County School Board Approves Student Make Up Day

Christian County school board members approved the second calendar revision for the current school during their meeting Thursday night.

Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett says students and staff will make up the school day missed on Friday, February 7, during what was previously scheduled as a professional development day, next month.

Board members approved March 20, as the make-up day, with the last day of school slated for Friday, May 22.

In addition, board members approved the 2020-2021 fees, which is the highest fee each of the schools can charge for various activities. Director of Business Jessica Darnell reports a majority of changes came from the elementary schools.

She adds the middle schools asked for their sports fees to be increased since they do not have booster clubs to help support them.

Board members asked Darnell if fees are cost-prohibitive to a student what action could be taken to help with that. She notes students who qualify for free or reduced lunches, can fill out a wavier for those fees.

During Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill’s comments, it was announced that Susie Hartline, Director of Strategic Planning, Federal Programs, and Grant Writing would be stepping down at the end of June. Gemmill thanked Hartline for her dedication to the district and added she appreciates her willingness to make sure someone is trained to do the tasks during such a busy time. Additionally, Gemmill announced she has named Tracey Leath as interim director. Leath will continue her duties as the District Assessment Coordinator and Instructional Supervisor.

Members also developed position criteria and instructions for the screening committee to aid in the upcoming superintendent search, per board policy.
