Dawson Springs Woman Injured, Horse Killed, in Accident Involving Vehicle

A Dawson Springs woman was injured, and a horse killed, in an accident involving a vehicle Wednesday night in Hopkins County.

According to a Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office report, Hopkins County Dispatch began receiving numerous calls just after 8:20 about a horse being ridden on the roadway by a single female in dark clothing in the area of St. Charles on Nortonville Road. The report indicates that numerous deputies arrived in the area but before the subject could be located a 2001 Ford Ranger driven by 82-year-old Leon Smith, of Nortonville, struck the horse and rider near the 8000 block of Nortonville Road.

The rider, 52-year-old Judith Henderson, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Medical Center Ambulance Service to Baptist Health in Madisonville. The horse died at the scene as a result of its injuries. Smith was not injured in the accident.

The St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department assisted the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
