Hopkinsville Man Charged After Assaulting Officer During DUI Arrest

A Hopkinsville man was arrested after he reportedly assaulted a police officer as he was being arrested for DUI on East 4th Street Tuesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say 57-year-old Eric Meux was found sleeping in his car in the Copper Still drive-thru. Officers attempted to wake him by knocking on the car window, the roof of the car and on the door but he would not wake up.

Officers reportedly opened the door and were able to wake him up and put the car in park. Meux allegedly had slurred speech and trouble getting up and standing.

During the arrest he reportedly resisted and pulled away from officers, Meux refused to do a blood test or any other test and admitted to officers that he had been drinking and driving.

He is charged with DUI fourth offense or more, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and driving on a DUI suspended license.
