Lyon County Band Director Resigns Following Complaint

The band director at Lyon County Middle and High School has resigned following a complaint made to the school’s principal.

According to news outlets Superintendent Russ Tilford expressed in a statement that complaints had been filed to Principal Tom Radivonyk about 23-year-old Joshua Scott after a field trip.

The statement indicated that administrators had learned that Scott allegedly allowed some inappropriate music to be played while on the trip and had allegedly made inappropriate comments to several students while they were traveling in a school vehicle.

Tilford’s statement indicated that Scott had offered his resignation at a Wednesday meeting that was meant to discuss the complaint. Also according to the statement, Tilford noted that it was his belief nothing illegal, or anything that could be considered abuse or neglect, took place during the incident.

You can read Tilford’s full statement below:

“Mr. Joshua Scott resigned on Wednesday afternoon as teacher and band director for Lyon County Schools after Mr. Radivonyk received reports from parents. The report from parents allege that during a field trip with band students, Mr. Scott allowed for inappropriate music to be played and made inappropriate comments to students. To the best of our knowledge, there was nothing that was illegal nor anything that neared the threshold of abuse or neglect. Simply, Mr. Scott erred in judgment and failed to uphold the standard of conduct we expect from our employees.

Temporarily, we have a substitute teacher in the classroom as we arrange for someone to complete the rest of the school year. We have posted the position and will fill the vacancy for next school year. We expect to have many qualified applicants, allowing us to find the right individual that can elevate our band program to new heights.”
