The community is invited to a retirement reception Tuesday afternoon for Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission Executive Director Bernard Standard.

Standard announced last summer that he would be retiring in January after serving on the commission since 1990.

In October at the Mayor’s Unity Breakfast, Standard was presented the Bernard Standard Award for Excellence, a new award initiated last year, by Human Rights Commission Chairman Reverend Ron Hicks.

Idalia Luna, who currently serves on the commission’s board and is executive secretary for Mayor Carter Hendricks, was named as Standard’s replacement and will begin her duties January 27.

City officials say the reception and celebration will begin at 5:00 Tuesday afternoon at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center, located at 715 South Virginia Street.
