January is School Board Recognition Month and Christian County is joining in the celebration.
Christian County Public School spokesman John Rittenhouse says Linda Keller, Tom Bell, Lindsey Clark, Jeff Moore, and Sue Hayes are among more than 850 school board members in the state’s 173 local school districts being recognized this month for their service.
Kentucky School Boards Association President and chairman of the Simpson County school board, David Webster says this is the perfect time to thank school board members for serving in the role that has become increasingly complex. He notes members of the Christian County Board of Education are responsible for making decisions aimed at ensuring that every child in their district has a chance to be successful both in school and in life. To do that, he adds members oversee an $85-million budget, keep with changing education laws and policies and spend hours on professional learning and state-mandated training.
Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says the voters in Christian County have elected these local leaders, who work to give every child in every classroom access to high-quality teaching and learning.
Gemmill notes at a time when state and federal funding continue to shrink, the school board members in Christian County haven’t flinched in the face of challenges or shied away from their responsibilities. She says the community can be very proud of this team of board members, and she is very proud to be their partner striving for education excellence for the children in the district.
