Hopkinsville Traffic Stop Led To Drug And Abuse Charges

A traffic stop on Means Avenue for not wearing a seatbelt led to drug and abuse charges Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop 32-year-old Kenneth Buckner of Hopkinsville on West 1st Street for his passenger not wearing a seat belt and he failed to stop, accelerating through the neighborhood recklessly.

Buckner stopped on Means Avenue and police reportedly found a newborn partially buckled into a car seat that was not secured to the car and an older child that didn’t have a seat available.

During the stop, Buckner was allegedly confrontational and refused to get out of the vehicle and pulled away from the police.

Police say two open containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle and the passenger 28-year-old Decarlous Forrest of Hopkinsville was found to have marijuana and cocaine on him.

A third person in the vehicle 22-year-old Emily Dearinger of Hopkinsville was arrested on outstanding warrants for second-degree escape and contempt of court.

Forrest was charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine and arrested on a warrant for non-payment of fines.

Buckner was arrested on warrants for failure to appear and contempt of court along with being charged with reckless driving, third-degree criminal abuse, resisting arrest, and failure to use child restraint devices.
