Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation officials say some spots are still available for this weekend’s Skatin’ on the Square in downtown, but they expect them to start filling up quickly as #HopkinsChill Weekend begins in Hoptown Thursday.

For the second year in a row, officials say the 2,500-foot synthetic ice rink will be set up near Founders Square, giving local and regional residents the unique opportunity to skate outdoors in Hopkinsville.

Due to the success of the ice skating rink last year, organizers added an extra day this year. The first of the 22 sessions will begin at 9:00 Thursday morning. Participants can use the rink during 90-minute session(s) for just $10, which includes skate rental in various sizes.

Officials say sessions are open to the first 80 people. While walk-up sales will be available, Skatin’ in the Square attendees are encouraged to register their session(s) in advance by clicking here.

According to officials, pre-registration will guarantee you a spot on the ice. Groups of six or more people are asked to make reservations by calling (270) 887-4290 or stopping by the Parks and Recreation Center at 2600 Thomas Street.

#HopkinsChill festivities will officially get kicked off at 6:00 Thursday evening — also at Founders Square — with the Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, which will include Christmas carols and remarks prior to the ceremonial lighting.
