Earlier this month, the City of Hopkinsville Inner City REZ Program and the Christian County Public Schools hosted a local scholastic chess tournament.
Inner City REZ Coordinator Laura Faulkner reports approximately 60 students participated in this year’s event at Freedom Elementary School, which marks the seventh year for Chess in Christian County.
Winners from the event in the Kindergarten through 6th Grade Division:
- 1st Place: Jaimin Lathon
- 2nd Place: Charlie Maddux and
- 3rd Place: Charlie Tomberlin
- Lydia Fraley Sportsmanship Award: Kolton Parker
7th through 12th Grade Division:
- 1st Place: Carter Pollard
- 2nd Place: James Ballard
- 3rd Place: Julius Grace
- Sportsmanship Award: Aiden Knepper
Faulkner adds the initiative was started as a part of the Economic Opportunity under the Inner City REZ Program.
