Joe Mumford Honored And Remembered At Park Ribbon Cutting

Local officials, family members, and Durrett Avenue neighborhood residents were on hand Friday afternoon for the ribbon cutting of Joe Mumford Park.

The park, authorized by Hopkinsville City Council, was fully funded through the Hopkinsville-Christian County WINS program and features a playground, basketball court, pavilion, restroom facilities, and more.

Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks says this project was a priority because they wanted to make sure they invest in the whole city.

Hopkinsville City Council member Patricia Bell, who was instrumental in getting the park built, hopes it will give people a sense of pride.

Retired US Navy Lieutenant Donald Mumford adds his father, Joe Mumford, was very influential in making Hopkinsville a better place.

Mumford was presented a key to the City of Hopkinsville and other members of the Mumford family were presented certificates to commemorate the ribbon cutting.

Joe Mumford Park is located at the corner of East 18th Street and Woodmill Road.
