Police Respond To Rumored Active Shooter Call At Governor’s Square Mall

Clarksville Police responded to a rumored active shooter call at Governor’s Square Mall Saturday night but did not find anyone suspicious when they arrived to investigate.

Clarksville Police spokesman Jim Knoll says officers were dispatched to the mall shortly before 6:00 pm after dispatch received a report of a fight in progress.  As officers were heading to the mall to investigate the fight they received another report that one of those involved in the fight had a gun, but there were no reports of shots being fired.

When they arrived on the scene officers observed people coming out of the mall, but saw no weapon and no one acting inappropriately.  They also spoke with an off duty police officer that was providing security for a business in the mall who said he did not see anything suspicious.

As officers moved around the mall to see if they could see any suspects, they found two alleged assault victims near the Belk department store.  The victims told the officer they were allegedly jumped by a group of boys, with a female witness telling police she saw one of the suspects running out of the mall with a gun in his hand.  The witness told police the man with the gun got into a truck and left the mall parking lot.  The assault victims said a gun was never used during the incident.

Police say they never ordered the mall locked down, and since no shots were fired Police never went into an active shooter response mode.  They note if a portion of the mall was locked down, that was done by one of the businesses in the mall.

Police made a walk-through of the mall for security purposes before they left the scene.
