Man Charged With Assault Of Trigg County Deputy

A man wanted by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday night including assault of a police officer.

Sgt. David Tomlinson reports deputies were called out Tuesday and found 34-year old Shane Knowlton, Sr. hiding in the woods. When officers tried to apprehend him, he fled on an ATV and they were unable to locate him.

Deputies went back to locate Knowlton Wednesday night after 6:00 about 10-miles west of Cadiz on Canton Road. When Tomlinson and Deputy Jeffrey Arena made contact with Knowlton, he was ordered to stop moving but reportedly refused. At that time, a K-9 was released and Knowlton threw a pallet onto the dog and jumped on the ATV to try to get away again.

According to the report, Knowlton started driving the ATV toward Deputy Arena and was told multiple times to stop but he refused. Deputy Arena then fired three shots into the ATV, with the rounds striking the radiator and the right front tire. The ATV still hit Deputy Arena, with Knowlton then swerving and flipping it over.

Tomlinson adds when Knowlton was taken into custody they found a small amount of marijuana in his pocket and discovered the ATV was stolen out of Pennsylvania.

Knowlton is charged with 1st-degree assault of a police officer, 2nd-degree assault on a service animal, 1st-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property under $10,000, and possession of marijuana.
