Unemployment rates rose in one county in the Pennyrile District between September 2018 and September 2019, and fell in the other eight counties, according to the latest data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
The jobless rate rose in Caldwell County to 4.4 percent in September 2019, up from 4.2 percent in September of last year.
In the Pennyrile, Muhlenberg County posted the highest unemployment rate last month at 5.7 percent, down from 5.9 percent from September 2018.
Christian County posted the second-highest jobless rate in the District at 5.1 percent, compared to 5.3 percent during the same period last year.
Livingston County’s unemployment rate fell to 4.3 percent, from 5.4 percent, while Crittenden County’s jobless rate dropped to 4.2 percent from 4.5 percent, Trigg County’s rate was 3.4 percent compared to 4.0 percent in September 2018, and Hopkins County’s unemployment rate for last month fell to 3.7 percent from 4.0 percent.
Todd County posted the lowest jobless rate in the Pennyrile for last month at 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 percent for the same period last year.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in 18 counties, fell in 91 and stayed the same between September 2019 and September 2018.
Fayette, Oldham, and Woodford counties all recorded the lowest jobless rate in the state at 2.8 percent each, while Harlan County recorded the highest unemployment rate at 11.9 percent.
Kentucky recorded a 3.8 percent unemployment rate for September 2019, higher than the U.S. comparable jobless rate of 3.3 percent.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for unemployment within the past four weeks.
