More Improvements Announced For Pennyrile State Park

Kentucky State Park officials and members of local government gathered at the Pennyrile Forest State Park Tuesday afternoon to announce additional funding coming for improvements.

Tourism, Arts, and Heritage Secretary Don Parkinson says approximately $670,000 in funding is coming to the park to make much-needed repairs.

Parkinson notes there are additional improvements they would like to make when more funding is approved and released to the state park system.

Other improvements officials are hoping to see include getting a better cell phone signal and faster internet.

Parkinson adds Governor Matt Bevin has been very crucial in getting the funding.

During the announcement, Dawson Springs Mayor Chris Smiley notes the park is a vital part of his city.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park features a lodge, cottages, a campground, hiking trails, and more.

The funding for the park comes as a part of the “Restoring the Finest” initiative, which has promised more than $88-million to be divided amongst 49 parks. Before funding was approved, the state park system was facing over $240-million in deferred maintenance costs.
