Trigg Hospital Surgery Center Could Offer More Services Soon

Trigg County Hospital hopes to offer some additional services in the surgery center in the coming months.

CEO John Sumner told board of trustee members Thursday afternoon they recently signed a contract with Dr. Rockne Brubaker to offer Otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) services.

Sumner adds they have been talking with Dr. James Fellows about Urology services, as well.

In other discussions, members learned about the pending closure of Fred’s Pharmacy on Main Street. The pharmacy had originally sent out a notice saying they were closing Monday, but now say they will remain open until further notice.

Sumner notes the closure will affect some 340B money the hospital receives.

Sumner tells the News Edge the 340B program is a drug saving measure that benefits critical access hospitals. For every dispensing fee, the Rural Health Clinic sends to a participating pharmacy, both receive money from the program. The program is funded strictly through money from major pharmaceutical companies and not through taxpayer dollars.

Hospital CFO Don Michaels told board members revenues for August were a little over $3-million, well ahead of last year.

Michaels adds Accounts Receivable Days, which pertains to how quickly you receive a bill after services at the hospital, is continuing to decrease. The average at the end of August was reported at 47.8 days.
