Fort Campbell Under Precautionary Boil Water Notice

Fort Campbell Army officials say the military base is under a boil water notice as a precautionary measure after an animal was found inside one of the feeder reservoirs on the post.

According to a post on social media, the current water boil notice was put in place as an abundance of caution when officials found an open hatch on a feeder reservoir with an animal inside around 8:00 Monday night. The animal was removed and Fort Campbell Army officials consulted the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the decision was made to drain the tank, clean it, and refill it while putting a precautionary boil water notice in effect. At this time, officials indicate there have been no positive tests regarding any contaminants.

Due to the boil water notice, schools at Fort Campbell operated on a two-hour delay Tuesday and sack lunches were made available for children to purchase. Schools also provided bottled water to students and staff throughout the day. In addition, all Child Development Center Programs were closed Tuesday and before school care at all School Age Centers were canceled.

Fort Campbell officials say they expect the precautionary boil water notice to be in place until sometime Wednesday.

The Fort Campbell Water Department serves over 40,000 customers.
