Local officials and prominent members of the agriculture community were on hand Friday morning as the Christian County Extension Center broke ground on their expo center.
Extension County Manager Jay Stone says the project is currently estimated to cost a little over $1.8-million and notes most of the money has already been given toward it.
He adds the building will be multi-purpose.
Christian County Ag Extension Foundation Chairman Robert Alexander says the groundbreaking is truly exciting.
Brandon Garnett from Farm Credit Mid America adds the expo center has been talked about for a long time.
Kentucky Ag Development Board Member Wayne Hunt says the expo center is mainly for the children.
Also on hand for the event was Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks, Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble, and Renee Carrico the Project Manager from the Governor’s Office of Ag Policy.
The center will be built directly behind the Christian County Extension Center on Pembroke Road and will allow for agriculture activities, including 4-H competitions, among others.
Early indications are the expo center could be up and running in about eight months.
