Six Big Dogs Rescued In Trigg Looking For Fur-Ever Home

A few large dogs removed from a Trigg County breeder this week are still waiting to find a fur-ever home.

Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says all the smaller dogs were adopted Thursday, but they still have six of the large dogs available for adoption.

A total of thirty-eight dogs were removed from a breeder located off of Rockcastle Road Wednesday morning. Trigg County Animal Control Officer Torrie Davis told the News Edge she received an anonymous tip about the breeder and when she conducted an investigation she found the dogs were living in cages in unsanitary conditions, along with black and green water and molded food. Officer Davis says the breeder was cooperative and owner-surrendered all but two of the 38 dogs rescued from the property. The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office charged the breeder, Linda Compton with 43 counts of second-degree cruelty to animals and 43 violations of dogs to be vaccinated against rabies.

Grace says she is grateful for the community’s support.

The animal shelter is waiving the adoption fee on the remaining dogs that are heartworm positive. However, when the dogs are adopted the owner will need to provide vet care, as well as proof of treatment to the shelter.

The Christian County Animal Shelter will be closed Saturday through Monday for the holiday weekend and will reopen Tuesday morning at 10:30.
