Jobless Rates Rose In 7 Pennyrile Counties In July

Unemployment rates rose in seven of the nine counties in the Pennyrile District between July 2018 and July 2019, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

The jobless rates rose in the following counties from last month compared to July of last year:
Christian County – 6.4 percent from 6.3 percent
Caldwell County – 5.7 percent from 4.9 percent
Lyon County – 5.4 percent from 5 percent
Trigg County – 5.2 percent from 4.9 percent
Hopkins County – 5.1 percent from 4.6 percent
Todd County – 4.5 percent from 4.4 percent

Muhlenberg County posted the highest jobless rate in the Pennyrile District in July at 7.7 percent, up from 7.1 percent from July of last year, while Todd County had the lowest unemployment rate last month.

The jobless rate stayed the same in Crittenden County at 5.3 percent, and dropped in Livingston County to 5.9 percent last month compared to 6.7 percent in July 2018.

Statewide, unemployment rates rose in 99 of the 120 Kentucky counties during the same time period, fell in 15 and stayed the same in six counties.

Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3.7 percent, while Harlan County recorded the highest rate at 13.1 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
