An interim chief of the Hopkinsville Fire Department may be appointed at the city council meeting set for Tuesday night.
According to the Hopkinsville City Council agenda, City Administrative Officer Troy Body will request council to approve the appointment of Deputy Chief Steve Futrell as the interim chief, until the external hiring process for a new fire chief is completed. By law, the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services regulation requires the appointment of a designee that establishes a line of authority in the absence of a permanent administrator for Ambulance/EMS.
This comes after former fire chief, Freddie Montgomery retired July 31 after 25-years of service. Montgomery was sworn in as the chief of the Clarksville Fire Department Thursday.
