Salvation Army Offering Cooling Station This Weekend

Due to the excessive heat warning that remains in effect until Sunday evening, the Salvation Army in Hopkinsville is offering a cooling station to those who need to get out of the dangerous temperatures this weekend.

Officials say they have extended the Soup Kitchen Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. They add lunch, cool drinks, and snacks will be provided.

The Soup Kitchen is located at 313 East 7th Street.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service say the maximum afternoon heat index values from around 105 to 110 degrees are expected through Sunday. Dangerously high temperatures and humidity could quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke if precautions are not taken. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.
