A special judge has been appointed to preside over the cases of a former band director facing sex-related offenses of a minor and his wife who was charged with tampering with witnesses. Judge James Jameson of the 42nd Judicial Circuit has been designated to preside over the cases. The 42nd Judicial Circuit includes the counties of Calloway and Marshall.

Christian Circuit Court Judge John Atkins recused himself from the cases of Seth Peveler and his wife, Hannah, who recently resigned as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney after she was indicted for three counts of tampering with a witness after she allegedly attempted to induce witnesses to not testify against her husband.

Seth Peveler was indicted on four counts of third-degree rape, four counts of third-degree sodomy and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. The rape charges are in connection to Seth Peveler allegedly having sexual relations with a student under the age of 18 while he was acting in his official capacity as the band director at Hopkinsville High School. The sodomy charges accuse Peveler of having deviate sexual activity with a student or students on four occasions. The unlawful transaction with a minor charge stems from Peveler allegedly providing marijuana to a minor. He resigned as band director in early May.

The couple entered not guilty pleas earlier this month during their arraignment. Judge Atkins set a pretrial conference for them to appear on September 4 for a pretrial conference.
