Officials with the U.S. Forest Service have some good news for visitors to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Energy Lake Campground is back open and operational after being closed in wake of a severe storm on June 21.

Officials say high winds and a possible tornado caused extensive damage to Energy Lake Campground as weekend campers prepared for dinner. They say staff evacuated the near-capacity campground as trees and debris fell on power lines and blocked roads. No injuries were reported but the campground sustained major damage that caused the prolonged closure.

According to officials, Taylor Bay Campground and Star Camp remain closed as the Forest Service continues to remove debris and cut dangerous snagged trees.

The Forest Service also wants to remind visitors that Heat Advisories will force the closure of some activities.
