Trial Date Set In Hopkinsville Police Lieutenant’s Perjury Case

A Hopkinsville police officer charged with perjury appeared for a pretrial conference in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police Department Lieutenant Jefferson Alexander was indicted for first-degree perjury in March by the Christian County Grand Jury for allegedly providing false testimony to the grand jury in 2012 in the case of former city councilwoman Ann Cherry.

At a pretrial conference, Judge John Atkins set his trial date for early next year.

In the case against Cherry, she resigned her city council seat as part of a plea agreement after she was charged with official misconduct, tampering with a witness, and tampering with public records.

In 2017, the insurance company for the City of Hopkinsville settled a federal lawsuit filed by Cherry and agreed to pay her $150,000. The city did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

Alexander is still employed at the Hopkinsville Police Department.
