PADD Celebrates 50 Years Of Service With Annual Dinner

Over 300 people gathered at the James E. Bruce Convention Center Monday night to celebrate a milestone for the Pennyrile Area Development District (PADD).

The district, which was formed 50 years ago, held its first meeting on June 18, 1969, in Caldwell County. Among the first thing the agency worked on was a $7,000 project to enhance emergency communication equipment in Cadiz and Trigg County.

Retired Justice Bill Cunningham was the speaker for the event. The Lyon County native commended each and every PADD employee and board member on all the hard work they have done since 1969.

Cunningham adds PADD is the salvation for the region.

Trigg County Judge/Executive Hollis Alexander presented the inaugural Pennyrile Regional Award of Excellence to four important members of the district.

The award recognizes individuals, groups or entities that display a passion for regionalism, with all four men serving as former executive directors for the agency.

PADD works to bring together governmental entities and local business to help communities within a nine-county region in western Kentucky.
