The body of a two-year old boy from Eddyville was recovered Monday morning after being swept away by floodwaters at Cummins Falls State Park in Jackson County, Tennessee Sunday afternoon. The Herald-Citizen newspaper in Cookeville, Tennessee says the boy was identified as Steven Pierce, the son of Anna and Curtis Pierce, of Eddyville.

According to the article, Park manager Ray Cutcher said the boy and his father were swept away by the floodwaters at Cummins Falls Sunday evening but the father was able to grab a log and pull himself out. The boy’s body was found Monday morning downstream of the falls in Blackburn Fork River less than a half a mile from where he was last seen.

Multiple search crews and a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter reportedly started helping those stranded by floodwaters beginning around 4:45 Sunday afternoon.

The park manager told reporters the park had been closed Friday and Saturday due to floodwaters but had reopened Sunday because waters had receded.
