Gateway Academy Presents Pride Ride Vehicle To Student

Students at Gateway Academy to Innovation and Technology’s Engineering Department recently built a ride for a special needs student at Sinking Fork Elementary School.

Christian County Schools report Michael Buckner, a preschool student with Cerebral Palsy, which makes it a struggle for him to walk and move around the playground was presented a “Pride Ride”. The vehicle will help improve Michael’s independence at school and allow him to keep up with his peers.

The vehicle was modified to allow it to be controlled by hand technology, a foot pedal or remote control operation by his teacher. The students who built the vehicle designed it to feature Paw Patrol, Michael’s favorite TV show. This is the fourth “Pride Ride” vehicle built by students at Gateway, with each vehicle built to suit the child’s need using different muscle and motor skills.

Michael’s parents are Brandon and Brianna Buckner.

The vehicle was made possible through a donation by Stephen and Janice Stamper of Berea, KY. The Stampers are the parents of Christian County Public School physical therapist Stephanie Harton.
