In order to avoid interfering with school bus traffic during the last few days of school, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has postponed a bridge replacement project on Millbrooke Drive in Hopkinsville to later this month. Spokesman Keith Todd says the original plan was to close Millbrooke Drive starting on Tuesday, May 14th, but plans now call for the closure to begin on May 28th. Meanwhile, he adds the contractor will do a work zone lane restriction with alternating flow to facilitate the clearing of brush and other prep activities.

As of May 28th, Millbrooke Drive will be closed between Dawn Drive and Karen Drive to allow the bridge over the North Fork of Little River to be replaced. This is about halfway between Country Club Drive and Pyle Lane.

The contractor will demolish the old bridge and build a new structure at the site.

Local access will be maintained for property owners on each side of the closure.

Scott & Murphy, Inc, is the prime contractor on this nearly $1.2 million dollar replacement project with a target completion date of December 1, 2019.

This project is part of the Bridging Kentucky Program which aims to replace about 1,000 critical bridges across the Commonwealth over the next 2 years.
