Superintendent Travis Hamby says with the board’s approval he will send out a request for proposal to area attorneys.

Full Statement from Howell Hopson:

Dear Chair Harper:

In late February, I informed Chair (JoAlyce) Harper, Vice-chair (Gayle) Rufli, and Superintendent (Travis) Hamby in confidence that our firm would not be seeking a renewal of our current contract. This letter is to give formal written notice that Hopson and Parris will not be seeking renewal of its contract with the Trigg County Board of Education which ends on June 30, 2019.

For twelve years, I enjoyed my role as a member of the Trigg County Board of Education. Geneva Parris and I have enjoyed working as attorneys for the Trigg County Board of Education for the past twelve years. Together we have had the opportunity to work with four superintendents and numerous board members. All of the board members, superintendents, and assistant superintendents with whom we have served desired to ensure a strong educational environment for students. We wish the Board, as well as Superintendent Hamby and other school employees, success in providing high quality educational opportunities for children.

                                                                                 Very truly yours,

                                                                                W. Howell Hopson III

In other business, Sherman Carter Barnhart’s Justin McElfresh discussed some additional changes made to the design of the primary/intermediate school renovation project. The projected cost of the project was once over budget, so board members made decisions based on teacher recommendations on what to cut or change to help bring within budget.

Hamby notes they have since discovered some additional funding that could help in the project. In January the school system was told their bonding potential had increased from around $12.2 million to around $12.8 million.

Additionally, Finance Officer Holly Greene and Hamby noted they learned from a fiscal agent that some additional money had not been factored in to the budget available for the building.

Board members unanimously approved the new design development drawings.

The next board meeting will take place Thursday evening, May 9 beginning at 6:00 at the Trigg County Board of Education office.
