Annual Homeplace Spring Quilting Bee This Weekend

The Friends of Land Between the Lakes invites the public to discover the art of hand quilting during the 13th annual Spring Quilting Bee this weekend at the Homeplace 1850 Working Farm and Living History Museum.

Homeplace 1850s Lead Interpreter Cindy Earls tells the News Edge the Spring Quilting Bee will be Saturday and Sunday and is held in conjunction with Paducah’s annual quilt show. She says at the Homeplace they want to show the handwork done on old fashioned quilts, especially the 1850s.

According to Earls, local Basket maker Doris Summers will be on hand both days from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. demonstrating basket making and she will have hand made baskets available for sale. For the men who may not be interested in the quilts, Earls says they will have blacksmith demonstrations from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. behind the Ox Barn and horseshoes games both days.

The Homeplace 1850s farm is open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and the Spring Quilting Bee event will be from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and up; $3 for ages 5 – 12, and free for ages 4 and under.

Fourth-grade students can go to the https://everykidinapark.gov/, and get their free Every Kid in a Park pass, and get their family in for free. For more information, call the Homeplace at (931) 232-6457.
