Gateway Garden Club Brings Home Awards From State Meeting

Four members of the Gateway Garden Club in Trigg County recently brought home awards from the Garden Club of Kentucky meeting.

The club reports President Jim Mullen, Jan Malmer, Becky Oliver, and Julie Smith attended the 88th annual meeting. While in attendance, Smith was installed at the Audubon District Director for the next two years and the club was recognized with four awards.

The awards presented to the club included:
* 1st place in Tree Planting – For work done with Arbor Day and Tree City USA program in Cadiz.

* 2nd place in Bird Protection – For work with their bluebird house, hummingbirds, feeding stations during the winter, bird baths and plantings.

* 2nd place in Butterflies – For Monarch counting, plantings, and education, especially for youth, on the different stages of the butterfly.

* 3rd place for Wildflowers – For club members taking a wildflower hike each spring to identify wildflowers in Trigg County, also plantings and protecting of wildflowers.
