Three Men Indicted In January Hopkinsville Murder

The Christian County Grand Jury Friday indicted three men in connection to a fatal shooting on Bethel Street in January.

Shakkory Willis

The Christian County Grand Jury formally charged 26-year old Shakkory Dashawn Willis of Oak Grove with murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. His co-defendants, 22-year old James Joseph Yates and 20-year old Lane Carter, of Hopkinsville, were indicted for first-degree complicity to burglary, first-degree complicity to robbery, and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

James Joseph Yates

On January 24, Hopkinsville Police reported Willis, Yates, and Carter, along with a 14-year old juvenile, unlawfully entered 1923 Short Bethel Street with the intent to rob 19-year old Dylan Stewart and 20-year old Corvyan Thomas of money and drugs. Detective Randall Greene testified during a preliminary hearing in Christian District Court last month that Willis shot Stewart in the leg and shot Thomas three times with a 9 mm handgun, resulting in his death. He said Willis was identified as the shooter through a photo lineup.

Lane Carter

All three men remained lodged in the Christian County Jail. Willis is being held under a $1 million cash bond.
