Man Arrested On Federal Warrants After Police Standoff In Murray

A man wanted on federal warrants caused a standoff with police in Murray Saturday morning.

According to a Calloway County Sheriff’s Office report, police were alerted that 37-year-old Jessie Branham was in a room at the Murray Inn & Art Gallery on South 12th Street with his girlfriend and infant child.

When police arrived he reportedly came to the door and pointed a gun at deputies and would not come out for law enforcement.

After several hours of negotiation, he came out of the room with his girlfriend and child and again pointed a gun at law enforcement then retreated into the room again before his girlfriend and child were taken from the room safely.

After several more hours, he exited the room with his weapon and dropped it on the ground and was taken into custody without any incident.

Branham was wanted for violating federal probation but law enforcement has not released information on his prior charges.

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the United States Marshalls Service, Murray Police, Kentucky State Police, Paducah Police, McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, Calloway County Fire-Rescue and Murray-Calloway County EMS.
