Life-threatening temperatures will continue to grip our region into Thursday when the temperature starts to climb above the freezing mark. The dangerously cold temperatures have prompted the National Weather Service in Paducah to extend a Wind Chill Advisory further south into the counties of Caldwell and Hopkins in effect from midnight Tuesday night through noon Wednesday. In the advisory area, meteorologists expect the wind chills as low as 10 to 20 degrees below zero. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Over the rest of the region, we can expect wind chills values closer to zero to 10 below zero.
Additionally, meteorologists say there is a chance of light snow showers overnight Tuesday. They add the worst case scenario is some places in western Kentucky could receive around one inch of dry snow, or there may be little in the way of snow accumulation.
The good news is warmer weather will quickly return beginning Thursday.
