Protection Available From Cold Thursday Night For Those In Need

Due to  the forecast of dangerously cold wind chills expected early Friday morning, the Salvation Army in Hopkinsville will open its Extreme Weather Event Shelter Thursday night.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says another blast of Arctic air Thursday evening will cause the temperature to plummet into the teens and with gusty winds out of the north, it will drop the wind chill from near zero to single digits across most of western Kentucky.

The Salvation Army opens it’s Extreme Weather Event Shelter for those who need a warm when the temperature for wind chill drops below 15 degrees. According to officials, the shelter will open at 7:00 Thursday evening in the Soup Kitchen building located at 313 East 7th Street. They say you will need to enter through the back of the building.

If you plan on being out and about Thursday evening, you will need to bundle up and prepare to protect yourself from the bitter cold early Friday morning.

In addition, please don’t forget to protect your outdoor pets from the dangerous cold temps. If you can’t bring your pets indoors, please make sure they are protected from the wind, have a warm shelter with bedding, plenty of unfrozen water and food.

Meteorologists say similar wind chill readings will be felt again, with yet another blast of Arctic air moving into the area next Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
