Man Charged With Trying To Hit A Police Officer And Fleeing

A Hopkinsville man allegedly tried to hit a police officer after a traffic stop then fled from police Sunday morning.

According to a Hopkinsville Police report, 28-year-old Nicholas F. Beasley was stopped for his license plate not being illuminated on North McPherson Avenue. When the officer approached the vehicle, Beasley reportedly backed the vehicle up towards officers, causing them to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

Beasley then allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. The police report indicates Beasley tossed methamphetamine and marijuana at police vehicles during the pursuit. Beasley was stopped after police used spike strips.

More methamphetamine and marijuana was found in his vehicle. He also had a suspended license and active warrants.

Beasley is charged with first-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, tampering with physical evidence, trafficking marijuana, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, operating on a suspended or revoked license, DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
