November 2018 Jobless Rates Fell In 7 Pennyrile Counties

Unemployment rates fell in seven counties in the Pennyrile District and rose in two counties between November 2017 and November 2018, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

The data shows jobless rates rose in Caldwell and Muhlenberg counties. In Caldwell County, the unemployment rate rose from 3.9 percent in November 2017 to 4.0 percent in November of last year. Muhlenberg County’s jobless rate rose from 4.3 percent in November 2017 to 4.5 percent in November 2018.

In the Pennyrile District, Todd County reported the lowest unemployment in the November 2018 at 2.9 percent, down from 3.4 percent during the same month in 2017, followed by Hopkins County who reported a jobless rate of 3.4 percent in November last year, down from 3.8 percent in November 2017.

The highest unemployment rate in the Pennyrile was reported in Livingston County at 5.4 percent in November 2018, down from 5.8 percent from November 2017.

In Christian County, the jobless rate fell to 4.1 percent in November of last year, compared to 4.7 percent in November 2017, and Trigg County’s unemployment rate dropped from 4.5 percent in November 2017 to 3.7 percent for the same month in 2018.

Statewide, unemployment rates fell in 107 counties between November 2017 and November 2018, rose in nine counties and stayed the same in four counties. Woodford County continued to record the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 2.5 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the highest unemployment rate at 9.9 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
