A federal grand jury has indicted the estranged husband accused in the October shooting and killing of his wife, Fort Campbell soldier Sergeant Brittney Silvers.

U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman announced Wednesday Victor Silvers was indicted with one count of first-degree premeditated murder, first degree premeditated attempted murder, domestic violence, violation of a protection order, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts of using a firearm during the commission of a violent offense.

A release says Silvers was originally charged in a criminal complaint filed on Sunday, October 15. According to the affidavit, around 10:00 that night a friend of Sgt. Silvers was socializing at her home when someone later identified as Victor Silvers arrived at the residence and began banging on the door. The friend heard shouting between the individuals followed by a gunshot. A short time later, the estranged husband entered the bathroom where the friend was during the altercation and a struggle ensued. Silvers allegedly discharged his handgun at least three times during the struggle and the soldier’s friend was struck in the leg. A neighbor walking his dog told authorities he heard the gunshots and saw Victor Silvers shoot Brittney Silvers in front of her residence. The affidavit says Victor Silvers initially denied involvement in the crimes but later confessed to shooting Brittany Silvers.

Coleman says the charges carry a minimum sentence of no less than 25 years up to life imprisonment or death.

Silvers initially appeared in U.S. District Court on October 16 where the judge ordered him detained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending further court proceedings.
