Community Gets A Sneak Peak At New Sports Facility

The newest multipurpose sports facility in the region is nearing completion. Community members and Christian County officials gathered at the Hopkinsville Sportsplex Thursday afternoon to get an idea on what the facility will offer.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says the building will be able to host multiple sporting events at the same time.

Brockman adds once the facility is open, it will compare to other facilities in bigger cities.

The Hopkinsville Sportsplex has signed a contract that will allow the James E. Bruce Convention Center to sell concessions in the building. According to Brockman, Bruce staff will come up with a signature food item for the facility.

The original date for a ribbon cutting was Thursday, but due to some setbacks, Brockman anticipates the ribbon cutting will happen in about a month.

The Hopkinsville Sportsplex is located at 155 Tilley Way adjacent to the James E. Bruce Convention Center. Along with the Sportsplex, the Bruce is currently going through a 15,000 square foot addition, and a 100+ room Holiday Inn will be built on the property.
