Soon to be Trigg County Sheriff Jason Barnes was sworn-in as deputy sheriff Thursday morning to begin a transition period with the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Ray Burnam says this will allow Barnes to get acclimated to the office before he takes over December 1st.
Barnes adds he’s excited to hit the ground running.
This comes after Sheriff Burnam announced in September he would be retiring December 1st before the end of his second four-year term. As we have previously reported, Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander will appoint Barnes as sheriff for the month of December and then he will officially take office on January 1. Barnes beat Burnam in the May 2018 Primary election.
